Bogotá celebrates the official opening of FILBo 2025 with Spain as the guest of honor
Today, Bogotá became the cultural epicenter of Latin America with the official opening of the Bogotá International Book Fair (FILBo) 2025. In its 37th edition, FILBo opened its doors at Corferias, standing out as the most important literary event in the region. This year, Spain is the guest of honor, bringing a rich cultural display that includes literature, film, art, design, and gastronomy.
The opening ceremony was led by Spain’s Minister of Culture, who highlighted the importance of cultural ties between Spain and Colombia. Also present was Bogotá’s mayor, Carlos Fernando Galán, who expressed his enthusiasm for the cultural and economic impact that FILBo generates in the city.
Expectations and reactions
FILBo 2025 promises to be a vibrant space for cultural and literary exchange. Authors, artists, and academics from around the world have gathered in Bogotá to share their works and perspectives. Attendees are looking forward to activities such as creative workshops, concerts, and exhibitions that celebrate the connection between literature and other disciplines.
International guests and featured programming
Among the most anticipated international authors are prominent figures such as Rosa Montero, Javier Cercas, and Fernando Aramburu from Spain, who will participate in talks and book presentations. Other notable guests include Andrés Neuman from Argentina, Kim Un-su from South Korea, and Frank Báez from the Dominican Republic, who will bring unique perspectives from their respective cultures.
On the Colombian side, writers such as Juan Gabriel Vásquez, Pilar Quintana, Margarita García Robayo, and Piedad Bonnett will enrich the event with their works and reflections. Poet Andrea Cote and photographer Federico Ríos Escobar will also present pieces exploring themes like memory, desire, and migration.
The inaugural event featured a concert titled "The Words of the Body," blending music and literature in Virgilio Barco Park. This year’s theme invites reflection on the body as a narrative and political territory.
A space for all
FILBo will be open to the public until May 11, offering a diverse program that includes literary, sports, and gastronomic activities. With more than 2,300 events and participation from 500 authors representing 30 countries, this edition will undoubtedly be remembered as a unique celebration of culture and literature.
