MEMPHIS, Tenn. — President Donald Trump made a surprise visit to Graceland, the famed mansion of Elvis Presley, on March 23, 2026, where he once again drew comparisons between himself and the “King of Rock and Roll.”

Trump, who was in Memphis to participate in a roundtable discussion on crime prevention, told attendees beforehand: “I think after this I’m going to see Graceland. Is that right? I love Elvis.”

During the private tour of Presley’s home, Trump marveled at the singer’s enduring fame and even joked aloud about whether he could have beaten Elvis in a fight. For years, Trump has played Presley’s music at campaign rallies across the country and has often likened his own popularity to that of the rock legend.

Graceland, designated a National Historic Landmark, remains one of the most visited private residences in the United States, attracting more than 600,000 visitors annually. It has frequently ranked second only to the White House in terms of visitor numbers. The last sitting president to tour Graceland was George W. Bush in 2006, accompanied by Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.

Trump’s detour to the Memphis landmark came at a time when thousands of travelers across the country were facing long lines at airport security checkpoints. The delays followed his administration’s decision to deploy federal immigration agents to assist the Transportation Security Administration during the ongoing partial government shutdown.

The president’s visit to Graceland underscored his penchant for blending cultural symbolism with political messaging, even as critics questioned his priorities amid international tensions with Iran and domestic frustrations over air travel disruptions.
