Florida Toughens Warnings Against Violent Protesters Amid National Demonstrations

Miami, Florida – Just hours before nationwide protests scheduled for this Saturday, Florida authorities have issued stern warnings against any protesters resorting to violence. The measure has sparked strong reactions among activists and civil rights advocates.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey made a forceful statement: “If you throw a brick, a Molotov cocktail, or point a gun at one of our officers, we will notify your family where to pick up your remains… because we will kill you. Cemetery, dead. We are not playing.” These words have been interpreted by some as a direct threat against protesters.

Meanwhile, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier reminded the public that the 2021 "anti-riot" legislation imposes harsher penalties for those involved in violent acts during public demonstrations. “In Florida, we do not tolerate riots,” he stated.

The protests, organized under the movement “No Kings”, aim to reject what demonstrators perceive as authoritarian expressions from President Donald Trump. More than 75 cities across the state are expected to participate in the mobilizations.

Activists have voiced concerns over the tone of these warnings. Thomas Kennedy, from the Florida Immigrant Coalition, stated: “There have been no riots or violence in Florida. People have the right to protest peacefully without being threatened in this way.”

Authorities have assured that law enforcement will be ready to intervene if the protests turn violent. Meanwhile, civil organizations are urging demonstrators to remain calm and exercise their right to protest peacefully.
