NASA and SpaceX Postpone Crew-11 Launch Due to Adverse Weather Conditions
Kennedy Space Center, Florida — July 31, 2025. NASA and SpaceX have postponed the launch of the Crew-11 mission originally scheduled for Thursday, citing unfavorable weather conditions at the launch site. The next launch attempt is now scheduled for Friday, August 1 at 11:43 a.m. local time (15:43 GMT).
Crew-11 Mission Overview
Launch Vehicle: Falcon 9 rocket with Crew Dragon Endeavour capsule
Launch Site: Launch Complex 39A, Kennedy Space Center, Florida
International Crew:
Zena Cardman (NASA, Commander)
Mike Fincke (NASA, Pilot)
Kimiya Yui (JAXA, Mission Specialist)
Oleg Platonov (Roscosmos, Mission Specialist)
The Endeavour capsule, making its sixth crewed flight — the most for any Crew Dragon to date — will carry the astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) in a journey expected to last approximately 39 hours.
Why Was the Launch Scrubbed?
Weather forecasts indicated persistent cloud cover over the launch site, posing a safety risk to the mission. SpaceX officially stated: “Standing down from today’s Falcon 9 launch of Dragon due to cloud cover at the launch site.”
Scientific Objectives of Crew-11
During their six-month stay aboard the ISS, the crew will conduct key research in:
Stem cell production for advanced therapies
New treatments for bacterial infections
Space agriculture techniques for future Mars missions
Crew-11 is part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, which aims to ensure continuous U.S. access to space and pave the way for lunar and deep space exploration.
Live coverage of the rescheduled launch will be available via NASA+, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and other platforms starting at 7:45 a.m. EDT on Friday.
