New York, September 26, 2025 — In a day marked by diplomatic tension and Israel’s growing international isolation, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Friday in a speech that prompted dozens of delegates to walk out before he even began.

The main hall was visibly empty, interpreted as a coordinated protest by several European and Latin American countries against Israel’s military offensive in Gaza, which has claimed over 65,000 lives, including more than 19,000 children, according to local authorities and international organizations.

Broadcast in Gaza as “Public Diplomacy Action”

In an unprecedented move, the Israeli government installed loudspeakers along the Gaza border to broadcast Netanyahu’s speech directly to the Palestinian population. The prime minister’s office described the initiative as a “public diplomacy action,” though Israeli military sources referred to it as an act of “psychological warfare.”

Speech Highlights: Hostages, Iran, and Rejection of Palestinian Statehood

Netanyahu defended the offensive in Gaza, stating that Israel has “destroyed most of Hamas’s terror infrastructure” and aims to “finish the job as quickly as possible.” He also addressed the hostages still held by Hamas, assuring that his government “will not rest until they are brought home.”

He firmly rejected international recognition of a Palestinian state, calling it “a reward for the murder of Jews” and likening it to “giving a state to Al Qaeda after 9/11.” He added that accepting a Palestinian state would be “national suicide” for Israel.

Regional Threats and Military Achievements

In a defiant tone, Netanyahu claimed that Israel has dismantled Iran’s nuclear program and eliminated key leaders of Hezbollah and Hamas over the past year, presenting posters on stage to illustrate what he called “strategic victories.”

Meeting with Trump and West Bank Stance

On Monday, Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump, who has reiterated that he will not allow Israel to fully annex the West Bank. This stance comes amid a new peace plan proposed by Washington aimed at de-escalating the conflict and promoting a negotiated solution.

International Reactions

Netanyahu’s speech comes as more countries—including France, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Portugal—move to recognize the State of Palestine. To date, 151 of the 193 UN member states have taken that symbolic step.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas addressed the Assembly the day before via video, condemning Hamas’s attacks and proposing that the UN administer Gaza once Israel’s offensive ends.
