Bogotá has officially positioned itself as the epicenter of Latin American contemporary art with the grand opening of the International Biennial of Art and City #BOG25, the most ambitious and transformative cultural event in the region. The inauguration, led by Bogotá’s Mayor, Dr. Carlos Fernando Galán, took place at the Eje Ambiental, where the city celebrated Love and Friendship Day through a collective artistic

intervention that reimagined public space as a site of memory, affection, and resistance.

 “Song of the River”: A Living Artwork for a City in Bloom

The opening piece, “Song of the River”, transformed the iconic reflecting pool designed by architect Rogelio Salmona into a fleeting garden made of 150,000 flowers grown in the Bogotá Savannah and donated by AsoColFlores. This performative installation paid tribute to the Vicachá River — the ancestral name of the San Francisco River — and to Bogotá’s emotional memory, offering a poetic gesture of urban reconnection through art.

More than an artwork, “Song of the River” is a statement of intent: the city as a space for collective creation, where art becomes a tool for social transformation. As Mayor Galán expressed, “This biennial is an invitation to imagine together the Bogotá we want — rooted in culture, diversity, and memory.”

 A Biennial That Turns the City into a Living Laboratory of Experience

Organized by the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá and Cultura en Bogotá, the #BOG25 Biennial unfolds across more than 25 venues, featuring 250 national and international artists. Installations, performances, exhibitions, labs, and interdisciplinary encounters will transform Bogotá into a vibrant stage for reflection on art, urban life, and contemporary experience.

This edition’s curatorial vision embraces the intersection of artistic practices, critical urbanism, and civic participation, establishing the Biennial as a continental benchmark in the dialogue between art and territory.
