September has firmly established itself as the pivotal month for contemporary art in Spain. Five major events kick off the exhibition season across Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, and Galicia, offering a rich spectrum of proposals—from international avant-garde to emerging local talent. Madrid: Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend & ARTIST 360 (September 11–14)
Spain’s capital becomes the epicenter of contemporary art with two simultaneous events:
Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend
Organized by Arte Madrid, this 16th edition features 57 galleries launching their exhibitions in unison. The program includes 46 solo shows and 9 group exhibitions, showcasing artists such as Joan Miró, Esther Ferrer, Cy Twombly, Stanley Whitney, Patricia Gadea, and Julie Mehretu. New media, experimental photography, and interdisciplinary practices also take center stage.

ARTIST 360 Fair
Held at the Ilunion Pío XII Convention Center, this inclusive and accessible fair brings together 60 exhibitors presenting figurative, abstract, urban, pop, and digital art. Directed by Moisés Bentata, the fair fosters direct dialogue between artists and visitors, with works available for purchase at accessible prices.
Barcelona Gallery Weekend (September 18–21)
The 11th edition of Barcelona Gallery Weekend, organized by Art Barcelona, features 24 galleries across Barcelona and L’Hospitalet, with over 30 national and international artists. The FLASH program offers ephemeral exhibitions available only during the weekend, alongside performances, guided tours, and collector meetups.

Contemporani participate, alongside institutions such as Es Baluard, Casal Solleric, CaixaForum, and Fundació Miró Mallorca.
