On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the city of Birmingham, England became the heart of a historic farewell. Thousands of fans, family members, and fellow musicians gathered to honor Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath, who passed away on July 22 at the age of 76.
Funeral Procession Through Iconic Landmarks
The procession began at 1:00 p.m. (local time) on Broad Street, passing through key locations in Ozzy’s life, including the Black Sabbath Bridge and the commemorative bench dedicated to the band.
The Osbourne family —Sharon, Jack, Kelly, and Aimee— accompanied the casket, visibly moved. Sharon greeted the crowd with Ozzy’s signature peace sign.
Local band Bostin Brass performed classics like Iron Man, while thousands of fans chanted “Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy!”
A Funeral Just as He Wanted
Ozzy had long expressed his wish for a joyful send-off: “I don’t care what music they play. But I want to make sure it’s a celebration, not a mourning festival.”
After the public procession, a private funeral was held in Buckinghamshire, attended only by close friends and family.
Musical Tribute and Legacy
Just 17 days before his death, Ozzy gave his final performance at Villa Park, joined by Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and Tom Morello, in the “Back to the Beginning” event.
The concert raised over £1 million for charities supporting Parkinson’s treatment, a disease Ozzy publicly disclosed in 2020.
Commemorative Exhibition
The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery launched the exhibit Ozzy Osbourne (1948–2025): Working Class Hero, featuring a public condolence book.
With music, purple flowers, and thousands of voices united, Birmingham bid farewell to one of its most irreverent and beloved icons. Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy lives not only in his records but in every corner of the city that saw him rise — and now honors him as a legend.
