U.S. Intensifies Anti-Narcotics Offensive in the Caribbean: Trump Confirms Third Strike on Venezuelan Drug Vessel

Washington, D.C. — In a move that underscores the Trump administration’s aggressive stance against transnational drug trafficking, President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that U.S. military forces have intercepted and attacked three suspected drug-smuggling vessels in the Caribbean Sea, correcting earlier reports that cited only two.

“We took down boats. It was actually three, not two—but you saw two,” Trump told reporters at the White House prior to departing for a state visit to the United Kingdom. He issued a direct warning to Venezuela: “Stop sending members of the Tren de Aragua to the United States. Stop sending drugs to the United States.”

Military Operations and Terrorism Allegations

The president’s remarks came just one day after he disclosed the destruction of a speedboat allegedly carrying narcotics, in which three individuals were killed. Trump labeled the deceased as “terrorists.” Later, from the Oval Office, he stated that the vessel was transporting cocaine and fentanyl—two substances central to the opioid crisis gripping the U.S.

Diplomatic Tensions with Venezuela Escalate

The military operations are unfolding amid heightened tensions between Washington and Caracas, following the deployment of U.S. naval assets in the Caribbean under the banner of counter-narcotics enforcement. Last Saturday, the Venezuelan government accused a U.S.

destroyer of illegally boarding and occupying a Venezuelan fishing vessel for eight hours, allegedly detaining nine fishermen in Venezuelan territorial waters. The U.S. government has yet to issue an official response.

The Trump administration has repeatedly accused Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro of heading the so-called “Cartel of the Suns,” a purported drug trafficking network involving senior Venezuelan military officials. In a dramatic escalation, Washington has offered a $50 million reward for information leading to Maduro’s capture.

Maduro Responds: Venezuela Ready for Armed Conflict

In response, Maduro declared Monday that diplomatic communications with the U.S. are “broken” and described the American military actions as acts of “aggression.” He warned that Venezuela is “better prepared” should an armed conflict become necessary.

Geopolitical Implications

Analysts caution that the militarization of anti-drug efforts in the Caribbean could further destabilize regional diplomacy and complicate multilateral cooperation. The Trump administration’s strategy reflects a broader shift toward treating narcotrafficking as a national security threat, with implications that extend beyond law

enforcement into the realm of international conflict.
